The terms are used loosely in the market, so start with definitions. When each is appropriate
If your lab processes samples through formal test workflows and reports results to external standards, a LIMS is the right category. If your lab needs shared, trustworthy answers about inventory, samples, equipment, and procedures — but does not run accessioning and result-validation workflows — lab management software covers the actual need at a fraction of the implementation weight.
